It CostsHow Much to Fly?

The steed in Ebon hold costs 900+ and it says it takes a skill of 225 to ride. The new flight trainer in SW says I need the level 60???? riding for 225 and then the level 70 for 4500 to get skill 225? Before all this I was supposed to be able to buy riding and the neat steed for less than 2000 total and qualify now. What gives? A little help please.
If all the information on http://www.wowpedia.org/Riding is accurate then as a new death Knight without rep bonuses you would have to spend the following:

304gp for 225 Riding skill (minimum for flying) - 150% flying speed/100% ground speed
50gp for a standard gryphon mount
---------
354gp minimum to fly in Outland.

+500gp for Cold Weather Flying to fly in Northrend.
+250gp for the Flight Master's License to fly in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor (Cata. Dec 7).
---------
1104gp total to fly in all flyable areas of the game at 150%.

+5000gp for Artisan Riding to fly at 280% speed.
+5000gp for Master Riding to fly at 310% speed.
---------
11104gp total to fly in all flyable areas of the game at 310%.

+850gp difference in price to get the DK gryphon mount instead.
---------
11954gp total

You can also do the achievement "What a long, strange trip it's been" to get Master Riding instead of buying it. I do not know if you would still have to buy Artisan Riding or not.
On Southwest Airlines, it costs nothing if you're a bag.
LOL^
When I open the new flight trainer in SW it indicates I have two levels of training the top being Jorneyman and my next level I need to pay for is 150 skill Expert for 225 gold. So I don't have the 150 skill that is stated at the site you mention. Something is wrong or at least different from what it was before.
So you are getting a faction discount instead of having to pay the default 250gp for Expert (225 riding skill).

The original 304gp i tallied included Apprentice, Journeyman, and Expert skill costs without any rep discounts. I overlooked the fact that you would already have Apprentice and Journeyman riding given to you for free since you got your 100% land mount and the skills to ride it through your initial quests. That brings the total down 54gp overall and then your rep discounts are going to reduce the overall costs even more as shown on the chart at http://www.wowpedia.org/Riding.

There are 5 levels of flying right now. 75. 150. 225. 300. 375. You currently have 150. The next level is the first level of flying skill, 225. I'm not sure how this is hard to grasp.

Edit: You absolutely do have 150, you get it for free as a DK.

Shows you have journeyman riding, as it should, as you get it when you enter the game as a DK.
I wish I could do a screenshot of the menu of the flight trainer at SW. I am looking at it right now. There are 4 things on the menu. The only one that is available to me to buy is expert level 150 for 225 gold. If I already have a 150 skill level as everyone keeps saying why the heck do I have to buy it? Then there are two other future choices for skill level 225 one is called cold weather flying for 450 gold avalable at level 68 and another available at level 70 also called skill level 225 for 4500 gold. After that is Master level. All the hell I want to do is fly the steed at Ebon Hold that says it takes a 225 skill level. So I am going to make the assumption that I have to buy the expert 150 for 225 gold being offered to fly at all, then get the opportunity to buy the cold weather skill level of 225 for 450 gold when I get to level 68. That is the only thing that makes sense to me looking at this damn menu.
I always remembered the ebon hold chickenmount as scaling with whatever flight speed/skill you have...

Cold weather is not 225. 225 is flying. You have the achievement for 150 riding. Take a screenshot and post it.
Now that all mounts scale with riding skill, the bone gryphon is no longer unique at all. So why does it still cost an arm and a leg? Why should I have to pay so much gold just so I won't look retarded flying around on a hideously ugly lion/scorpion/bat?

Pssst...

{looks around to make sure noone else is listening}

I hear there's a free flying mount available from a Caverns of Time heroic instance...

There's also rumors of a free flying mount from a faction reputation item reward...

And there's supposedly a rare creature that flies around Northrende that if you kill it, it becomes a mount...

Keep it to yourself though...

I hear nothing pleases you...

Just thought you should know what people are saying...

You didn't hear it from me though...
The end of my story: There is a misprint in the menu for purchasing expert flying. Even though it states you would be getting 150 which was causing all my confusion I bought it anyway. To my amazment I got 225 skill!!!! I then went and got the mount in Ebon Hold I wanted and all is fine. I had put in a ticket and a GM did get back to me and confirmed it was a error that was going to be fixed.
