Race Change?

[:1]I was thinking about race changing my DK to a goblin due to the fact that I can't hardly bear to look at my tauren anymore and he never fits through things when he is mounted. Just a pet peeve, but it does cause me to nerdrage for some reason. SO, if you did race change over to goblin.... Like it? Hate it? Indifferent? Worth 25 bucks?
Its funny Draeneis had the same problem in some of the building in IF even when not mounted.
Go Orc.
%5 pet damage, plus the Bloodrage racial makes Orc for the best UH DK on Horde atm - Goblin as a close second, however.

Plus, you can't touch this. /dance
I enjoyed the race change from Orc to Goblin; the Orc Racials seemed good, (with the pet damage being great for unholy) but when I realized the attack power racial is level based rather than scaling with gear, I decided Goblin's 1% Haste, Blink (the rockets are rather useless), and the Best Deals Anywhere are worth a race change.

Plus, I'm a little Ball of Fury; like a Gnome, but far better.
I clicked Rocket Jump

You're bad.

^
i think it's definitely worth the money even if i sometimes miss my troll
def worth it, i was blood elf and after getting called an Edward fan too many times i bit the bullet and paid $25, now all my toons are goblin cause they are simply put, amazing! if for nothing else, having exalted rep prices to every vendor all the time makes them the best race in the game for both pvp and pve, cause nothing beats saving money... NOTHING!

DK leveling.

[:1]Ok, so I haven't played since BC and I just got wotlk, getting cata for christmas. I've played a rogue into the ground back in BC and I was planning to roll a DK. I'm horde so I was wondering A) what would be the best race and B) what spec should I focus on while leveling through BC and WoTLK.

Thanks in advance.
For leveling i'd say 2h frost with "on a pale horse" would be the best/fastest leveling spec.

Race wise, i saw either undead or orc.
I agree, frost is a fast leveling spec

Can DKs tank at 58 now?

[:1]With little to know threat problems? also, is the starting gear good for tanking?
DKs are amazing at everything right out of their starting area. The gear is fantastic for both DPS and tanking. In fact, right out of the gate, you should be able to 2-man Ramparts with a good healer.
DKs have always been able to tank at 58. You'll probably be doing the most DPs too.
but i heard that dks dont get the best threat talent until like the mid 60s
You don't get Dark Command, the taunt, till 65. You still have Death Grip which is also a taunt but long cooldown.

Truth is with Heart Strike, Blood Boil and Death and Decay (at lvl 60) you should have plenty of AoE threat. As mentioned DKs start with very good gear so most times you'll easily outgear the dps, only BoA twinks could be competitive.
I tanked to level from 60-80, granted it changed a lot since then but I'll say that it only starts to slow down around 65, but it'll still be fun as hell.

Now, I will say that the recent(massive) tanking nerfs and the weirdness of our class right now will hurt you, but it's not going to make it impossible.

Avoidance and a DK

[:1]I'm Wondering how much avoidance a DK Tank needs, for raids/heroics all that good stuff.
Should I be going for mastery instead? Also How much Stam should I be stacking?
http://deathknightbuilds.com/deathknightstats.html
Refer to this website for stat priorities.

As for how much you need for heroics/raiding, you'll need help from someone else.

Please help with my DK

[:1]Hello everyone,

I am sad to say that I am in seek of some help. I am Frost/Unholy dps. And in heroics, my dps is fine. I'm content with it. When I get into raids on boss fights my dps scales about a 4-5k difference. And it's happening ever since the patch.

Am my gems wrong? Am I missing something? I am still upgrading my gear as I go along. So I'm up for whatever suggestions to put me where I need to be at.

I'm basically at the point where I'm considering to roll a Rogue or Fury Warrior..
4-5k differences on the same fight? That's some wild irregularity and the only thing that can cause something that big is how you play, not how you gear.

Use the ability priorities outlined by Consider on the EJ forums and then make sure you're doing the usual of standing behind the boss, avoiding negative fight mechanics, utilizing good fight mechanics (damage auras from Arcanotron for instance), and all that good stuff.

Nothing that happened in the patch would cause a variance that big. It's something you're doing that you probably just aren't noticing.
Well if your raiding with your expertise at 12/12 as your armory shows now it would most certainly cause a major dps lose. The lower lvl heroic bosses are affected by you not being at the cap but a raid boss dps will be affected much more. Get that Expertise to 26/26 or at least close. At a glance it appears you have several items you can reforge.

Blood Spec Forges to what?

[:1]What do we mainly Forge are gear towards stats wise.
to tank mastery
Hit (to Cap)
Expertise (to Dodge cap)
MasteryMasteryMasteryMastery
pretty much what they said, at higher mastery ratings our mastery is awesome, before cata hot I was putting up 45k damage shields with death strike :)
What is the Hit / Expertise cap for 2 hander blood?
exp>hit>mastery IMO
8% hit, 26 expertise.

Dps spec at 80

[:1]The changes they made to the dk class really screwed me up. Im currently unholy, but I used to be blood spec. Which is the one I take if I want to do massive damage and stomp my way through mobs at level 80? Should I stay unholy? Give frost a shot? or is blood surprisingly dps heavy?
honestly im trying to figure the same thing out. i specced both frost and unholy. i do decent dmg as frost, but for unholy i cant seem to find a way to do some good dps other than make my pet do the dark transformation thingy, but thats a hassle, 5 death coils within 30 seconds of each one, and even then its only up for 30 seconds. sooooo... im prolly missing something.
Yeah the pet thing is kind of annoying to me. It actually took me awhile to figure out HOW to do the transformation. At first I assumed it was like a bm hunters frenzy procs build up and figured it was something the pet did. lol The damage the pet dishes out is pretty nice though when transformed. Think it was smacking stuff around for 1500 a pop non crit. The death coil thing isnt so bad, since I dont have much else I care to use my runic power on. Its just finding mobs that live long enough to get 40 runic power off of thats a hassle. But im blaming that on my cata sword carving through stuff.
lol if it were only 40 runic power u needed, u have to smack it 5 times with a death coil =/
I have been wrecking mobs with my spec. Not sure how other stuff compares but personally I'm loving mine. Just the basic cookie cutter level 80 dps spec that I used to use plus the two talent points from 81 & 82 put into the death grip talent = fast leveling so far. :)

Edit: basically I pull the monster with a death grip then icy touch, plague strike, festering strike, scourge strike and deathcoil whenever possible :) also just hit dark transformation whenever it pops although it isn't a big concern. Generally things die in about 5 seconds so that is working for me. Also remember to be in Unholy Presence :)

Nite

So...

[:1]Are DKs any good anymore? In PvP or PvE? What's the sitch.
We're fine against most things, can't figure a good way around frost mages, and I personally hate warlocks with their undispellable DoTs and fears.

Go look at the hunter forums... Lol.
Obviously all classes are terrible and whatever your main is should be rerolled, at least if you judge from what people on the forums will tell you.

Weapon Speed for 2H Unholy

[:1]Hey guys.

I have...

Sorrow's End: http://www.wowhead.com/item=66993
and
Oversized Oblique Ogre Obliterator: http://www.wowhead.com/item=63787

I have been using Oversized..but I was thinking of switching to Sorrow's End for the 3.6 speed instead of 3.3..but Sorrow's has mastery which is very unattractive, even though it can be reforged into hit or crit..

Which one would you guys recommend?

Weapon speed is not what really matters. Weapon speed is just a proxy for average damage per hit, because that's what strikes scale off of. Given the same weapon ilevel, slower speed means higher per-strike damage, which is good.

Stats are not an issue. Both weapons have haste, so you would be just reforging mastery into crit. Crit is decent, but nothing to cry about, so don't worry too much about trading some crit for mastery.

BUT...

Right now the strike damage is so weak that most of our damage comes from magic and ghoul, and at 359 gear level dual-wield Unholy is actually better than 2H unholy, because the damage you lose on strikes, you more than make up on extra Sudden Doom procs and somesuch.

So if were still in ICC, i would say slower weapon with mastery over faster weapon without mastery; but now, i am actually unsure.

Best Rotation for Unholy 2H

[:1]I've been playing DKs for roughly 3 months, I think they're great, but I'm finding I am having a hard time upping my DPS. My 80 capped out at like 4-6k dps (pre cata) and now my new DK (lvl 75) is doing around 2k. My rotation consists of laying down my diseases, throwing DnD, and spamming DC. When I can buff my ghoul I spam the crap out of that and to refresh diseases when needed. My main problem is that I find I have WAY too much down time waiting on runes to refresh. Any help would be great!
Get to 85.

What he said ^

Edit: oops...wrong thread...comment deleted

I need an answer

[:1]Since blizz said that they were buffing might of the frozen wastes, do you guys think 2h frost will catch up to dw frost and UH?
Do you think Better Homes and Gardens will put out a Hanging Gardens piece on Babylon?
say what now?

2H Frost will definitely catch up to DW in terms of PVE DPS, and probably surpass DW Frost as the preferred Frost PVP spec.

It will still be behind UH PVE DPS.

It will still be behind UH PVP effectiveness in small scale PVP (1v1, 2v2)
I'm going to agree with Consider.
The actual numbers will be interesting although if I had to guess, no, this won’t prop the spec up enough to compete with, say, Frost DW, let alone Unholy. It’s a start, though, if a curiously, unnecessarily complex one.

Blood PVP is ridiculous

[:1]Seriously, I'm not sure what they did since I don't ever run blood, but just finished with an AB and the DK that finished in the #1 spot in both damage and KB's was a blood dk who came in at almost 3mil damage, 400k ahead of me and he had over 1million healing to go along with it.....wtf

Blood Tanking talent improvment suggestions

[:1]Blood-Caked Blade: Re-design to make it more reliable and do roughly 50% more damage, making it worth 3 talent points. Change from having a 10/20/30% chance for your auto-attacks to do 25% WD +12.5% per disease into 'gives your auto-attacks a 33/66/100% chance of causing 8% WD+8% per disease on the target' Assuming 16% of your damage is from auto-attacks, the current form would average out to do 2.4% of your total damage with diseases up, 1.2% un-diseased. The proposed form, again assuming 16% of your damage from auto-attacks, would have do 3.8% of your total damage with your diseases up or 1.3% without.

Bloodworms: Eliminate the time limit, however allow them to be hit by AOE like most 'pets' are, though with a 90% creature reduction. Also, put a limit of how many bloodworms can be out at one time (perhaps 4) and cause them to transfer 100% of the threat they generate from damage to whoever spawns them, and allow that threat to be modified by your presence. In effect, your bloodworms would live until they burst, or were killed in AOE, making them more effective in the second-hand healing.

Dancing Rune Weapon: Change the cost to 1 blood, thus allowing you to open with this ability for the extra threat gen, much how a pally can open with wings popped and 3 Holy Power for the extra damage--and thus threat, or how a warrior can shout, charge in and instantly pop Shield Block for double-damage Shield Slams.

Rune Tap: Restore to healing you by 15% of your maximum health. It has a 30 sec CD, thus preventing it from being spammed or otherwise abused, and with the nerf to Death Pact, prevents it from being OP in pvp

Glyphs:

Glyph of Death Strike: Change to allow a damage increase per 3 Runic Power, down from 5, allowing a DK with 60 Runic Power (the maximum on which damage is calculated on) or more to gain the 40% damage bonus, thus allowing flexibility with Rune Strike

Glyph of Blood Boil: With CC now a factor as it was in BC, the current form is useless, perhaps change it to increasing Blood Boil damage by 10%

New pvp video

[:1]hey everyone

my latest video has been released on wcm.com to showcase frost pvp, hope you enjoy it ^^ please rate and comment~ the more downloads the better =O

http://www.warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=169807
le bump
I watched the video and liked it. It's nice to see frost return as a viable PvP spec. Before I hit 80 I did a lot of PvP on this character as frost. Those days were pretty fun, running around AB with savage saronite and the de-raged war axe going 1 vs 4 and comming out alive. Sometimes a healer would remember my name and follow me around.

I hope rated BGs are fun because I hated, and I mean I loathed the arena. Ever since BC was released and the arena came out I've barely done anything but BG's on all my toons and it gets tiring when the best gear I can buy from doing BG's alone is 2 seasons behind. Maybe with this Xpak I can get this Hrondir to grand marshal aswell. Keep up the good work Mufasax I'll definately DL the video.
Very entertaining man. Pretty much showcased the power of frost in battlegrounds. Super solid. I was considering unholy over frost for when I start PvPing again, but this video may have swayed my decision. Good music, not watered down with post-production, slick UI and smooth gameplay. Thanks for this brotha =)

How to reach spell pen cap for PvP

[:1]So being a PvP playing DK I'm sick of having my spells resisted. I understand that it is desired to have 195 spell pen to avoid this I would just like to know the best way to go about do this as there is no gear to help us in this endeavor. Thank you for your time.
70 to cape and 3 Spell Pen gems.
thank you.

Irregular Talent Choices

[:1]So, I'm gonna start this out with a quote from the Chilblains discussion happening a few posts below me (found at--http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1764408523):

The reason why I have neither Butchery nor Improved Blood Tap in my DW Frost DPS spec is because when you're in a raid, your individual dps matters far less than in a 5-man or soloing. I instead put those 4 talent points into Endless Winter and Chilblains.

Case for Endless Winter: Halfus Wyrmbreaker. I never have to worry about having 20 Runic Power every other Shadow Nova, and neither does my guild. Happy all around!

Case for Chilblains: Magmaw. By using Unholy Presence and an initial DnD on every Flame Pillar, I was able to use Howling Blast to nuke and chill every parasite and kite them around the room. My guildies loved me. (Glyph of Howling Blast required)

Neither of those talents boosts our dps, but they are spectacular when it comes to being useful to other players and your own survival.

So, this is something I've been coming across recently. Lots of people seem to be still focusing on the idea of Maximum DPS when speccing. Recently, I've been criticized for my unusual talent choices (Endless Winter, Virulence, and OaPH versus Butchery and Improv. Blood Tap) because they won't provide me the "Maximum DPS potential".

Now, I'm certainly not saying that you shouldn't use inferior specs, I'm just asking for more discussion on what is considered inferior, instead of just accepting everything that is spoon-fed to us from Elitest Jerks.

Discussion?

Edit: Small corrections on Spec, and added link to the Chilblains Spec

Frost AoE?

[:1]
To quote Ghostcrawler:
...we see Survival hunters and Unholy DKs on top of a lot of single target fights....On fights where there is a lot of area damage, Demonology warlocks, Frost DKs and possibly Survival hunters are all too high.

Maybe it's just me, but where is Frost aoe coming from? Is all our aoe ability suppose to be from HB? Hungering Cold is aoe I suppose, but not much for dmg. While leveling I have to switch to blood if i want to aoe a couple mobs. (Granted, I don't have HB yet)

I'm seeing great single target dps from Frost, nice burst, better dps than unholy from what I can tell. But not much aoe. Any advice, or is it just from HB that our aoe comes from?
From what ive seen death knights are OP. I saw one solo ozumat, and frost does way to much aoe AND single target...when theyre complaining about having to wait 20secs b4 attacking and still pulling threat, something is wrong. usually in the damage done department. I havent seen to many unholies so i cant comment on that.
HB accounts for most dk aoe damage. Some dinkus dk's use death and decay also when their not tanking. So toss down a DnD, start spamming howling blast and blood boil...you dish out more aoe than any other class in the game but you pay for it in sheer mass aggro. And healer aggro.
You might be using blood boil for AoE if you aren't seeing stellar numbers. Because HB is so good, it's better to blood strike for the death runes, then spam howling blast. Pest your diseases and drop DnD when it's ready, and you will see how insane our AoE damage is.

Death Knight that play Pvp, I need HELP!

[:1]Hey guys I have decided to be a death knight and I was wondering what race and spec would be good for PvP. I need to know the spec more than the race.
They're all good at least for world PvP and BGs. For arenas, blood might not be so great.

Blood is the tanking spec but it still can be great for 1v1 vs melee opponents (very easy to win) or do fine with high survivability in BGs or carry/defend flags.

Frost has the most burst. It procs big crits over and over and can snare people with their ranged and spammable AOE that deals decent dmg. If you want to kill people in a few big crits, go with frost. Frost also has this AOE frost CC to trap opponents in ice blocks (but damage will break it).

Unholy has a bit more control and a bit better diseases. It has a permanent ghoul and can summon a gargoyle for a short period of time. It feels to me like unholy hits like a wet noodle compared to frost but it can put up good pressure (especially against healers) by spamming necrotic strikes, having pets on them to prevent them to escape and drink and chain the ghoul stun with the silences to slowly wear them down. Unholy also has slightly better defenses against spell damage (AMS absorbs 100% instead of 75% and they can get anti-magic zone for around 30k absorbtion). Unholy is more centered around pressure and DoTs.

I always prefered frost but had to go with unholy after a while in WOTL to run with paladin in 2s cause it just was working better. Right now, both frost and unholy can be good and competitive in arenas if you look at some of the top teams. Blood is a tank spec but can still be good with self heals for 1v1 situations or in BGs but might not be as interesting for arenas because the damage should be lower and it would probably take forever to kill anyone with it compared to unholy pressure or frost burst.
Thanks a lot Neosoul that really helped, which spec allows you to heal yourself

Why start at level 55?

[:1]I will finally be hitting level 55 tonight (or at least I hope so) and I will be rolling a DK as soon as the ding is done, but I can't help but wonder why the class starts at level 55. Why can't I start every toon at level 55 once I get one to that level? Has an actual reason been given for this? I am not complaining or trolling...I just want to know. If it was intended to be an unlock for lich king content they could have just make a player get to level 55 and then be able to start a Death Knight at level 1. I've done my research and I have a feeling I am really going to like the DK class and I am thinking I might feel cheated that I am losing out of 54 levels of play time to learn the class and the fun and tribulations that come with that. (And why level 55? Why not 40? or 60?)

Did the devs just not want to make low level abilities for the class? It just doesn't make sense to me. The lore is that they are escaped Lich King servants, but I don't see why that makes them start at a higher level. Even if they are supposed to be former experienced warriors. If I was a .NET Web Engineer for 20 years I would still start out as a newb who might know a few basics if I transfered to another field.

On a side note...these are the first forums I've been to that I don't see an obvious search function. Is the armory search supposed to bring up forum posts as well? (I suppose I should have tried that, but didn't think of that till now) Though I suppose they may have figured it a waste of time to put that function in as I know I am one of the few people out there that actually use it. I want to believe this has been asked before, so I am sorry for putting up again.
you'll find you don't actually start at 55.

while this is technically true, by the time you get all of your abilities/equipment and finish the death knight starter quests and are ready to get into the non-dk specific content you will be level 58-60. the first few levels as a DK are handed to you in short order through a very fun and fast paced quest line.

i assume they wanted you to move directly to outland and that is why 55 and not 40 or 32 or 27 or 74.

Hero Class? As in the Heroes from the RTS Warcraft 3? There were other classes that were heroes as well. Or is that some other term particular to World of Warcraft that I not familar with yet?

And why should the DKs move right to the outlands content? Why is this one class special in that regard? I personally can see some validity to the arguement that a character should just start out at max level since in these kinds of MMOs hitting the level cap is when the real game begins, but I also see why that is not a good idea in terms of the stability of the game (new players to the game would log into a ghost town...and we already do on a lot of servers). So why do it with one class? I probably will have my answer once I start playing one or at least I hope so.

And yeah...the search funtion is built into the Armory search ( I am at work and thus using IE7 so the search box was covered by the warning box about an old browser.
Because thats the way Blizz wants it. 'Nuff said.
If I remember properly, back when the DK class was announced it was stated that you'd have to have a top-level toon, then "sacrifice" it so you'd become a DK. Then the level req was lowered to 55, then they figured no sacrifice was needed.

If I may, and this is only speculation. The reason DKs started at 55 and go straight into outlands was because a new xpac, and a whole new zone was coming along. Some of the old players that had ha Gazillion toons at 70 might not be leaning towards trying a DK because of all the Azerothisboringtolevel.

Why wasn't something along these lines included for goblins and worgen? Cause cata changed a lot of azeroth and quests/zones feel fresh and new (I only have 4 80's and didnt feel like leveling a new toon cause basically I knew all the quests). I'm tempted to level a new alt from 1 with all the new quests and what not.

-Again only speculation, but that answer works for me. :)
It was supposed to be a "hero class" because it wasn't supposed to be "balanced." It started out as an intentionally unbalanced class. I remember when blood presence was blood aura... and it stacked with all the other DKs in the raid. We'd do a BG and heal for like 30% of the damage we'd do... then when we eventually did die, we'd automatically raise as a ghoul. I believe the intention was to eventually have a new hero class for each new expansion after WotLK... but people wined that it wasn't balanced, and DKs were brought down to a balanced level with everything and are essentially pretty much identical in strength and role as a warrior. 'cept they get special mounts.

Since people rejected the idea of "hero classes" in the first place, blizzard said no more and don't seem to have any intention of making any new classes at all...

I'd much rather see a new class (or... two?) than any more new races... but alas. That makes balance difficult.

If there were a new (hero or not) class... what sort of class would you guys look for? Dragon knight might be interesting... Centered around polymorphing into dragon forms... instead of DK presences, they could take on the aspect of different flights to perform different roles. Could be interesting.

Or Brewmasters (pandaran NPCs, but not as a playable race)... would be a superior Buff/debuffer, even if it's not too strong themselves. Would suck to solo, but be invaluable in raids.
A hero class isnt anything that's supposed to be better then other classes its just the name they picked for a class that you character "morphs" into. Usually how it would work is if you were a specific class at a certain lvl you could become specialized and take a hero class but because of the way WoW works changing classes at higher levels becomes next to impossible so they just made it so that you can create a new character as that class.

The reason that DKs were so overpowered when they first came out is because it takes thousands of people playing for hundreds of hours each to show what works and what doesn't work (I still miss the DWR summoning another Army). When people talk about dk being op because they are the "hero" class just never played way back in vanilla when entire specs of classes were no good for anything because blizzard was still working on developing the game and getting feedback and forming ideas on how to make certain specs playable without making them the "One class to rule them all" (warlocks right before wrath).

Is unholy Blight bugged?

[:1]I haven't used this talent since WOTL cause I wanted resilient infection instead. I just changed my unholy spec and picked it up but noticed that when I cast death coil on a dummy, there's not DoT at all that ticks. I know the DoT isn't supposed to be high dmg but still, shouldn't I see some unholy blight DoTs ticking from it?
It's not bugged.

It does 10% of damage DEALT.

If you hit a dummy with 1 hp with a deathcoil for 5000 damage, that did 1 pt of damage and 4999 overkill.

So UB would deal .01 points of damage per second for 10 seconds, adding up to .1 damage. This is rounded down to zero.

Try it on something with a hp pool and it works fine.
